Have you ever paused to consider what makes a reflection? The necessary ingredient is light. And that light needs to travel; essentially it bounces between two objects – leaving one, bouncing off the other, and returning from whence it came.
I like to think that travel offers the best opportunity for self-reflection. In projecting yourself into the world – you move not only your body but your mind. You become the radiating light, every sense activated. You collide with the unfamiliar and return having learned your capabilities, and limitations. You are closer to yourself. This, friends, is true enlightenment.
My first #FriFotos was taken in at the Golden Palace in Kyoto, Japan, and there’s probably no better destination if self-reflection is what you seek. Kyoto radiates an earthy, calm, zen-like peace. The second is of my other beautiful friend Jen. When I looked at her through the glass of a riverboat on the Seine, I saw the perfect reflection of Paris on her face.
#FriFotos is a Twitter event founded by @EpsteinTravels. Search the hashtag every Friday to see photography from around the world illustrating the theme of the week.
Nice photos. Cool reflection too! I’ve gotta try one of those somewhere.
I love both of them. And I agree totally with the self-reflection, though I am far from true enlightenment.
